Chapter 8 - Healing the Scars

The proposal hung in the warm evening air, sweet with the scent of jasmine and new beginnings. Sofía looked into Nicolás’s eyes, seeing the raw vulnerability of a man who had conquered kingdoms but was now completely at her mercy.
"Nicolás..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "I love you. I think I’ve loved you since the moment you defied your own mother to give me that one hour in the nursery. But our worlds are so different. I am a girl from the barrios. My friends are doctors who make pennies and street vendors who sell fruit. Your world is still filled with the echoes of billions of pesos and historical weight."
"Then we will build a bridge between them," Nicolás said without a moment's hesitation. "I don't want the old world, Sofía. I’ve already begun transforming the Velasco Foundation. We are funding ten new pediatric clinics across the poorest sectors of Mexico City. I want you to direct them. I want your eyes, your heart, and your standards to run the entire medical network."
Sofía’s eyes filled with tears—not of sorrow, but of a profound, overwhelming joy. She looked down at Mateo, who was now sleepily leaning against his father’s leg, entirely safe, entirely loved.

Nicolás pulled her close, his massive arms wrapping around her waist, lifting her slightly off the grass as he kissed her. It was a kiss filled with the relief of a long winter ending, a promise of protection, and a deep, unshakeable respect.
