PART 18 – THE LAST BETRAYAL

The following morning, the Velasco estate felt unusually quiet.

The laughter that usually echoed through the gardens seemed distant.

Even Mateo noticed it.

"Why is everyone whispering, Mama?"

Sofía smiled gently as she knelt beside him.

"Because grown-ups sometimes worry too much."

Mateo nodded thoughtfully.

"I'll tell them to smile."

He ran off toward the nurses, proudly wearing his favorite dinosaur backpack.

For a brief moment, everyone smiled.

But Nicolás couldn't.

The message hidden inside Gabriel's letter refused to leave his mind.

The Benefactor is already inside your family.

And now...

He had another problem.

Someone had tried to kill Sofía.

Someone had planted cameras inside the mansion.

Someone was feeding information to Ricardo Salazar.

The traitor was getting closer.

A Secret Meeting

That afternoon, Nicolás quietly summoned his head of security.

"I want background checks on everyone."

"Everyone, sir?"

"Every employee."

"Every volunteer."

"Every supplier."

The guard hesitated.

"What about Dr. Isabella?"

Nicolás paused.

"...Especially Dr. Isabella."

Neither of them noticed the young maid cleaning the hallway outside.

She wasn't dusting.

She was listening.

Isabella's Nightmare

That night, Isabella woke with a scream.

She was back in the same nightmare.

A burning warehouse.

Gunfire.

A little girl crying.

Her father kneeling before a man whose face remained hidden.

Then—

A gunshot.

She opened her eyes, drenched in sweat.

The bedside clock read 3:17 a.m.

The exact time the clinic had exploded.

She reached into the drawer beside her bed.

Inside lay an old silver locket.

She opened it.

On one side was a photograph of her father.

On the other...

A tiny raven.

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"They're making me become you..."

she whispered.

The Traitor Makes Contact

Far across the city...

Ricardo Salazar sat alone inside a dimly lit office.

His phone buzzed once.

Unknown Number.

One sentence appeared.

Security investigation has begun.

Salazar smiled.

"So..."

"You finally realized."

He typed a reply.

Tonight.

The final test.

Daniel Overhears the Truth

Unable to sleep, Daniel wandered through the mansion looking for a glass of water.

As he passed the old library...

He heard voices.

One belonged to Don Esteban.

The other...

Was Isabella's.

Daniel quietly stepped closer.

"...I never wanted this," Isabella whispered.

"I know."

"They'll kill my mother."

Don Esteban sighed deeply.

"You should have told us."

"I couldn't."

"They've watched us for years."

Daniel's heart pounded.

Watched?

Who?

"They ordered me to gain Sofía's trust."

"I refused."

"They threatened my family."

Silence.

Then Don Esteban spoke.

"There is still time to make the right choice."

Daniel accidentally stepped on a loose floorboard.

Creak.

The conversation stopped.

"Who's there?"

Daniel ran.

Nicolás Learns the Truth

The next morning, Daniel found Nicolás in the security office.

"I have to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"I heard Dr. Isabella."

Nicolás listened carefully.

Daniel repeated every word.

When he finished...

Silence filled the room.

Nicolás closed his eyes.

"So..."

"It was true."

Isabella Confesses

Instead of confronting her publicly, Nicolás asked Isabella to meet him in the mansion's garden.

She arrived looking exhausted.

"You wanted to see me?"

Nicolás nodded.

"I know."

Her face immediately turned pale.

"I..."

"You were sent here."

Tears instantly filled her eyes.

"I'm sorry."

"I never wanted to hurt anyone."

"Who sent you?"

She looked away.

"I can't."

"They'll kill my mother."

Nicolás remained silent.

After a long moment...

He spoke softly.

"Look at this place."

She looked around.

Children played soccer.

Nurses laughed together.

Volunteers planted flowers.

"This family was built because people chose hope instead of fear."

He looked directly into her eyes.

"You still have that choice."

Isabella began crying.

"I've already betrayed you."

"You can stop."

The Hidden Device

Slowly...

With shaking hands...

Isabella reached beneath the lining of her medical bag.

She removed a tiny black device.

"No..."

Sofía whispered after arriving moments later.

"What is that?"

"A transmitter."

Isabella lowered her head.

"They've been listening to everything."

The room fell silent.

"They heard every conversation."

"Every security meeting."

"Every plan."

Nicolás stared at the device.

"So that's how they always stayed ahead."

"I'm sorry."

"I was too afraid."

The Price of Betrayal

Before anyone could say another word—

BEEP.

The transmitter began flashing red.

Isabella's eyes widened.

"No..."

"It's tracking me."

Nicolás reacted instantly.

"Everyone move!"

He threw the device into the center of the empty garden.

Three seconds later—

BOOM!

A violent explosion ripped through the flower beds.

Glass shattered across the mansion.

Children screamed.

Smoke filled the air.

Had Isabella kept that transmitter inside the clinic...

Dozens would have died.

Salazar's Punishment

Across town, Salazar calmly watched the explosion through satellite footage.

One of his men frowned.

"She betrayed us."

Salazar nodded.

"I expected it."

"What now?"

He stood and walked toward the window.

"She chose Nicolás."

"So she no longer has a mother."

The bodyguard looked confused.

Salazar picked up his phone.

"Make the call."

A Mother's Last Goodbye

Isabella's phone rang.

She answered immediately.

"Mom?"

Only silence.

Then...

A weak voice.

"Isabella..."

"I'm sorry..."

A woman cried softly.

"They found me."

Gunshots echoed in the background.

"Run..."

The line filled with static.

One final whisper.

"I love—"

BANG.

The call ended.

Isabella collapsed onto the floor.

"No..."

"No!"

She screamed until her voice broke.

Sofía knelt beside her, holding her tightly as she sobbed.

Nicolás looked away.

His fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white.

Another innocent life...

Destroyed.

The Final Revelation

That evening...

After Isabella had finally fallen asleep from exhaustion...

Don Esteban entered Nicolás's office carrying a small wooden box.

"I've hidden this for thirty years."

He placed it on the desk.

Inside...

Was another photograph.

Unlike the others...

This one showed the four young brothers standing together.

But there was someone else.

A fifth man.

Standing behind them.

His face was partially hidden by shadows.

Don Esteban's voice trembled.

"We spent decades searching for the fourth brother."

"We were asking the wrong question."

Nicolás looked up.

"What do you mean?"

Don Esteban pointed toward the shadowed figure.

"There was never a fourth brother."

"There were five."

Silence.

"The fifth man..."

"...was the one giving the orders."

Nicolás slowly turned the photograph over.

On the back...

Someone had written a single name.

EL BENEFACTOR

At that exact moment—

The mansion's emergency alarm began screaming.

Every security monitor turned red.

One terrified guard shouted through the radio.

"Sir!"

"We have multiple armed vehicles approaching the front gate!"

Another voice interrupted.

"No..."

"They're not stopping."

The massive iron gates exploded inward.

A convoy of black armored SUVs burst through the smoke.

May you like

The war had finally arrived...

At the Velasco family's front door.
