Chapter 8 - The Sister He Never Knew
Rosa was not Rosa Mendez.
Her real name was Eleanor Harrington.
She was Marcus's half-sister.
Marcus returned home furious.
"You knew."
Rosa cried.
"I knew something was wrong. I didn't know everything."
"You used me."
"No."
"You came into my home."
"Because your mother asked me to protect you."
Marcus stared at her.
"Protect me?"
Rosa nodded.
"She knew Victor would eventually come for the company."
"And Isabella?"
Rosa wiped her tears.
"Isabella is your niece."
Marcus looked at the little girl sleeping on the couch.
The revelation hit him harder than anything else.
The child who had walked into his birthday and made him smile was family.
His family.
The family he'd never known existed.
Marcus sat beside her.
Isabella stirred.
"Birthday man?"
Marcus smiled through tears.
"Yes."
She reached for his hand.
"Are you sad?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I found something."
"What?"
"My family."
Isabella smiled.
"That's good."
Marcus looked at her.
"Yes."

Then every light in the penthouse suddenly went out.
A gunshot echoed from downstairs.
