Marcus spent the next forty-eight hours investigating his mother's death.
He discovered missing medical records.
Deleted bank transactions.
A life insurance policy he'd never known existed.
And one shocking fact.
His mother had transferred $12 million into a private trust six days before her death.
The beneficiary?
Rosa's daughter.
Isabella.
Marcus stared at the document.
"That can't be possible."
His attorney shook his head.
"It's legitimate."
"Why would my mother leave twelve million dollars to a child she barely knew?"
"We need to find out."
Marcus looked toward Rosa.
She was standing outside the office.
She had heard everything.
"I didn't know."
Marcus walked toward her.
"Did my mother ever tell you why?"
Rosa shook her head.
"She only said your family would one day come looking for Isabella."
Marcus frowned.
"What family?"
Rosa hesitated.
"Your father."
Marcus's expression changed.
"My father died before I was born."
Rosa shook her head.
"No."
