Chapter 13 - The Truth About the Birthday

Weeks later, Victor was arrested.
The company survived.
The trust was secured.
Eleanora returned home.
Richard began rebuilding his relationship with Marcus.
And Rosa finally stopped looking over her shoulder.
But Marcus's life had changed in another way.
He no longer worked until midnight.
He no longer ate dinner alone.
He no longer ignored birthdays.
On September 14th the following year, Marcus woke to noise.
Laughter.
Music.
Children running through the penthouse.
He walked downstairs.
The room was decorated with balloons.
A cake sat on the table.
Rosa smiled.
Richard stood beside Eleanora.
Diana, now forgiven but no longer employed by Marcus, had been invited as a guest.
And Isabella ran toward him.
"Birthday man!"
Marcus laughed.
She hugged him.
"Did you make a wish?"
Marcus looked around the room.
His mother was alive.
His sister was beside him.
His niece was laughing.
He had people.
Real people.
Not employees.
Not shareholders.
Not business partners.
Family.
"I already got my wish."
Isabella frowned.
"What was it?"
May you like
Marcus smiled.
"Exactly this."
