Chapter 5 - The Legal Firestorm

By Friday morning, Room 502 of the Federal District Court in Miami was under maximum security. The media had caught wind of the Castillo scandal, and a wall of reporters stood outside the stone steps, their cameras flashing against the tinted windows of the arriving police vans.

Vivian Moretti sat at the defense table, her high-priced international defense team surrounding her like a wall of expensive suits. She had been granted a temporary medical evaluation jumpsuit, her designer appearance entirely stripped away.

"Your Honor," Vivian’s lead attorney began, standing up and addressing Judge Margaret Vance. "The petitioner, Alejandro Castillo, has executed an illegal vigilante lockdown of a private estate, detained my client without due process, and used his corporate security force to manufacture financial records. We move for an immediate dismissal of all charges based on a contaminated chain of custody."

Judge Vance looked over her glasses at Alejandro, who sat at the prosecutor’s table, his arm wrapped protectively around Elena, who sat beside him in a simple, elegant dark suit.

"Mr. Castillo," Judge Vance said. "What do you have to say regarding the chain of custody?"

Alejandro stood up. He didn't look at the lawyers. He looked directly at the bench.

"Your Honor, I submit to this court the physical evidence recovered from the sub-basement vault by the State Forensic Division," Alejandro said, his voice ringing through the high-ceilinged room with absolute finality. "Specifically, the daily operational logs handwritten by my wife, Elena Castillo, which include the exact serial numbers of the digital security tokens used by Vivian Moretti to access Castillo Holdings accounts."

He handed a digital drive to the bailiff. "Furthermore, we submit the medical forensic report from Dr. Evelyn Harrison, documenting the specific chemical signature of the sedatives found in Elena's system—sedatives purchased using a corporate credit card registered directly to the Moretti family trust."

The defense attorney slowly sat down, his eyes darting toward Vivian with an expression of profound professional defeat.

Judge Vance slammed her gavel down with a sound that signaled the end of the Moretti dynasty. "The motion to dismiss is denied. The defendant, Vivian Moretti, will be held without bail pending a federal trial under the RICO Act for kidnapping, extortion, and corporate espionage. Bailiff, remove the defendant."

As Vivian was led away in handcuffs, she turned her head, her eyes locking onto Elena one last time. But Elena did not flinch. She stood straight, her hand linked securely in Alejandro’s, her gray eyes reflecting the cold, unyielding light of justice.
