Chapter 4 - The Sub-Basement Secrets

While the corporate purge was unfolding at the headquarters, Alejandro returned to the mansion with a specialized team of forensic engineers from the state police division.

They stood in the deep, cold dampness of the wine cellar. Alejandro approached the heavy stone pillar where Vivian had been held under guard. She looked broken now, her silk dress stained, her hair matted with sweat, but the venom in her eyes remained intact.

"You think you’ve won, Alejandro?" she hissed, a bitter, desperate laugh breaking from her throat. "You found her. Great. But you’ll never find the original deeds. You’ll never find the physical certificates for the Genoa shipping lanes. Without them, Castillo Holdings defaults to my father’s estate by the end of the fiscal month. You’ve destroyed your own company to save a broken maid."

Alejandro didn't answer her. He walked past her, toward a heavy iron wine rack that had been bolted to the stone wall since 1950.

"The engineering team found the variance in the floor depth, boss," Marcus said, stepping forward with a heavy hydraulic crowbar. "The wall behind the fourth rack isn't structural stone. It’s reinforced titanium alloy painted to look like granite."

With a deafening screech of tearing metal, the forensic team pried the wine rack away from the wall, revealing a digital biometric keypad hidden behind a false electrical outlet.

"Elena gave me the override code before I left this morning," Alejandro said. He reached out and punched in a sequence of twelve numbers: the date of their wedding, inverted.

The titanium door slid open with a soft, mechanical hiss.

The interior of the vault was small, cold, and smelled faintly of copper and damp paper. A single cot sat in the corner, covered in a thin wool blanket. On the small wooden table lay a stack of handwritten journals—hundreds of pages where Elena had meticulously recorded every single flight time, every corporate announcement she heard through the floorboards, and every name Vivian had spoken while visiting her prison.

Alejandro picked up the journals, his eyes filling with a fierce, burning pride. Elena hadn't just survived; she had conducted a three-year forensic audit of her own captivity.

"Take the logs," Alejandro told the state investigators. "And tell the District Attorney that we don't just have a kidnapping case. We have the complete blueprints of the Moretti cartel's entire global operations."
