Chapter 29 - THE UNBROKEN LIGHT

That evening, a surprise celebration was held at the cliffside estate.

Friends, local neighbors from Laguna Beach, and long-time loyal staff members gathered on the wide lawn as dusk began to settle over the coast.

Warm string lights strung between the ancient pine trees illuminated the grass in a soft, magical glow. A small acoustic band played soft, romantic melodies near the edge of the wooden deck.

Little Ethan was running through the grass, chasing sea soap bubbles blown by his sister Harper, their ecstatic laughter echoing over the rhythmic crash of the waves below.

Eleanor and David walked over to Jake and Emily, carrying two glasses of sparkling cider.

"You did well, son," David said, his voice thick with pride as he clapped his hand firmly on Jake’s shoulder. "Your grandfather built Vance International with steel, but you protected this family with something much stronger."

"With love, Dad," Jake smiled, looking over at Emily, who was currently laughing as Harper placed a crown of white lilies onto her head. "With love."

Eleanor hugged Jake tightly, tears of deep contentment glistening in her eyes. "I remember when you used to come home from New York, Jake... your face was so tense, your eyes so cold. Look at you now. Look at your home."

Jake watched his children running toward the terrace.

Ethan tripped over a patch of soft grass, tumbling gently onto his knees. Before Jake could even move, Harper was there, taking her little brother’s hand, pulling him up, dusting off his knees, and kissing his cheek before they continued running together toward the ocean view.

Jake felt a profound, overwhelming wave of gratitude wash over his soul.

Everything he had ever lost, everything he had ever fought for, and every mistake he had ever made had led him to this exact moment—standing on the warm grass, surrounded by the people who loved him for who he was, not what he owned.

Julian walked up, wearing a casual polo shirt, holding a glass of iced tea. He looked at Jake with a grin.

"Board meeting went great today, Big Brother," Julian teased gently. "We donated Arthur Sterling’s former corporate penthouse to a children’s art charity."

Jake laughed softly, shaking his head. "Good riddance."

"Come on, Jake," Emily called out from the center of the lawn, extending her hand toward him, her white sunshirt glowing in the twilight. "Dance with me."
