Chapter 9 - THE LEDGER
The original ledger was hidden inside my father's workshop.
Detective Morris found it beneath a loose floorboard.
It contained names.
Dates.
Payments.
Politicians.
Business owners.
Police officials.
Doctors.
Insurance agents.
The list went on for pages.
Richard wasn't simply a corrupt businessman.
He was part of a network.
David had been one small piece.
My father had discovered the network and planned to expose it.
That's why he died.
And now the network knew I possessed the ledger.
That night, my attorney told me something terrifying.
“If this ledger becomes public, powerful people will lose everything.”
“Good.”
He stared at me.
“You understand that means they'll come after you.”
I placed my hand on my stomach.
“They already did.”
Then my baby kicked.
I smiled.
“I survived them once.”
