Chapter 10 - THE RECORDING
The hidden camera contained more footage than anyone expected.
Weeks of recordings.
Months.
It showed David and his mother discussing everything.
It showed Richard visiting our house.
It showed David receiving instructions.
But one recording changed everything.
My mother-in-law was speaking to Richard.
She was crying.
“I can't do this anymore.”
Richard answered:
“You've already done too much.”
Then she said:
“She knows about her father.”
Richard became furious.
“She knows nothing.”
“She found the letter.”
“What letter?”
“The one he left for her.”
Richard slammed his hand against the table.
“Then find it.”
I suddenly remembered.
My father had given me a wooden jewelry box shortly before he died.
I had kept it in storage.
I had never opened the hidden compartment.
Police retrieved it.
Inside was another letter.
This one was addressed directly to me.
My daughter,
If you're reading this, I'm gone.
Trust no one connected to David.
