Chapter 7 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW EVERYTHING

Vanessa was arrested two days later.
She didn't look frightened.
She looked exhausted.
During questioning, she refused to speak about David.
But when Detective Morris mentioned Richard Hale, Vanessa broke.
“You don't understand,” she whispered.
“Then explain.”
“David wasn't in charge.”
The detective leaned forward.
“Who was?”
Vanessa began crying.
“Richard.”
She explained everything.
Richard had met David years earlier.
He had taught him how to move money.
How to create shell companies.
How to manipulate insurance policies.
How to make deaths appear accidental.
“My father,” I whispered when Detective Morris told me.
Vanessa nodded.
“Your father discovered what Richard was doing.”
“And David?”
“He was working for him.”
The truth was worse than I imagined.
My husband hadn't invented the plan.
He had inherited it.
Richard had helped David manipulate my father's finances.
When my father threatened to expose them, Richard ordered David to silence him.
Vanessa looked down.
“Your father wasn't supposed to die that night.”
I felt my heart stop.
“What happened?”
“David panicked.”
The room went silent.
“He caused the accident.”
I closed my eyes.
For six years, I had believed my father died because of bad luck.
It wasn't bad luck.
May you like
It was murder.
And now the man responsible knew I was still alive.
