Chapter 10 - THE PARKING GARAGE

Raymond found Samantha's car three hours later.
There was blood on the driver's door.
My heart stopped.
Police searched the garage.
Nothing.
Then my phone rang.
Unknown number.
Brendan.
“Withdraw the lawsuit.”
I said nothing.
“Do it, Nora.”
“Where is Samantha?”
Silence.
Then:
“You're asking the wrong question.”
“What did you do?”
“You should be asking what your father knew.”
My stomach tightened.
“What does that mean?”
Brendan laughed.
“Your father wasn't protecting you from me.”
He paused.
“He was protecting you from your own family.”
The call ended.
I immediately contacted Raymond.
He went silent.
“Your father had enemies,” he finally said.
“Who?”
“I don't know.”
“You're lying.”
He looked at me.
“There is one file I was instructed never to open unless you discovered something about your mother's death.”
I froze.
“My mother?”
Raymond nodded.
“I think your father knew she didn't die the way you were told.”
