Chapter 9 - THE DOCTOR'S CONFESSION

Daniel Reeves lived in Michigan.
Nathan found him within hours.
The doctor opened the door.
The moment he saw Emma, his face changed.
“I'm sorry.”
Emma stared.
“For what?”
Daniel stepped aside.
“You'd better come in.”
Nathan followed.
Daniel sat across from them.
“I knew your father was manipulating you.”
Emma whispered,
“Then why didn't you tell Nathan?”
“Because Charles threatened my family.”
Nathan's voice was cold.
“What happened at the hospital?”
Daniel closed his eyes.
“The twins were born prematurely.”
“We know.”
“One of them had a rare medical condition.”
“Which one?”
“Noah.”
Nathan stared.
“What condition?”
Daniel shook his head.
“That wasn't the real issue.”
He opened a file.
Inside was a medical photograph.
“Noah had an unusual genetic marker.”
Nathan frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“His blood contained a rare inherited mutation.”
“From me?”
Daniel nodded.
“And your father discovered it.”
Nathan felt sick.
“Why would he care?”
“Because the mutation was connected to an old family trust.”
Nathan froze.
“What trust?”
Daniel explained.
Nathan's grandfather had created a secret trust decades earlier.
It contained billions in assets.
But there was a condition.
The assets could only pass to a direct descendant carrying a specific genetic marker.
Nathan stared.
“So Noah was the heir.”
“Yes.”
Charles had spent years trying to control Nathan's inheritance.
But Noah's existence threatened everything.
Daniel continued.
“Your father didn't want Noah dead.”
Nathan's eyes narrowed.
“What did he want?”
“To hide him until he could control the trust.”
Emma covered her mouth.
Nathan stood.
“How much?”
Daniel hesitated.
“Approximately fourteen billion dollars.”
Silence.
Nathan laughed once.
Not because it was funny.
Because it was insane.
Fourteen billion dollars.
The fortune his father had nearly destroyed a family to control.
Then Daniel said,
“There was another problem.”
Nathan turned.
“The trust required both the child and the father to appear before a judge.”
Nathan understood.
“If I knew Noah existed…”
“Charles couldn't control the trust.”
Nathan looked at Emma.
“And that's why he separated us.”
Daniel nodded.
But Nathan wasn't satisfied.
“Who tried to take Noah?”
Daniel looked down.
“I did.”
Emma gasped.
Nathan stepped forward.
“You?”
“I was ordered to transfer Noah to a private facility.”
“By Charles?”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
“Then who?”
Daniel whispered,
“Your business partner.”
Nathan froze.
“Who?”
Daniel pulled out a photograph.
A man stood beside Charles.
Nathan recognized him immediately.
Richard Sloan.
His closest executive.
The man who had worked beside him for fifteen years.
The man Nathan trusted with everything.
Richard had been the architect behind Project Kingdom.
And apparently, he had been waiting for one thing.
Noah.
Nathan's phone rang.
Richard.
Nathan answered.
“Richard.”
The voice on the other end was calm.
“I assume you've learned enough.”
Nathan's blood ran cold.
“What do you want?”
“The trust.”
“You're not getting it.”
Richard laughed.
“Then perhaps you'll reconsider when you see who I have.”
Nathan froze.
Emma looked at him.
“Who?”
Richard said,
May you like
“Ethan.”
The call ended.
