Chapter 6 - THE DAY NATHAN CHOSE HIS SONS

Nathan moved Emma and the boys into a secure private residence that night.
Emma hated it.
“This isn't our life.”
“I know.”
“We can't hide forever.”
“I know.”
“Then what are we doing?”
Nathan looked at her.
“Buying time.”
“For what?”
“To destroy my father.”
Emma stared at him.
“You sound like him.”
Nathan flinched.
“I don't want revenge.”
“Then what?”
“Justice.”
The next morning, Nathan publicly withdrew from Project Kingdom.
The business world exploded.
News channels reported the story.
Investors panicked.
Analysts called it the biggest strategic mistake of Nathan Harrison's career.
Nathan didn't care.
Charles called him.
“You're throwing away everything.”
Nathan answered calmly.
“No.”
“You're choosing a schoolteacher and two children over a fortune.”
Nathan smiled coldly.
“No.”
Charles paused.
Nathan continued.
“I'm choosing my family over you.”
Charles hung up.
But Nathan had anticipated the next move.
His attorneys filed for an emergency investigation into Harrison Development.
Then something unexpected happened.
Several executives came forward.
They had been waiting years.
They gave statements.
Documents.
Bank records.
Evidence.
Charles's empire began collapsing.
But Emma still looked worried.
“What?”
Nathan asked.
She shook her head.
“It's too easy.”
“What do you mean?”
“My father—”
She stopped.
Nathan waited.
“I'm sorry.”
“You can tell me.”
“My own father used to work for Charles.”
Nathan froze.
“What?”
“He handled some of the offshore accounts.”
“Does he still?”
“I don't know.”
Emma received a message.
Her face went white.
“What?”
She showed Nathan.
A photograph.
Her father stood beside Charles.
Behind them was a hospital nursery.
And one of the incubators.
Nathan stared.
“Your father was there?”
Emma nodded.
“He told me he wasn't.”
Nathan zoomed in.
A second figure stood in the background.
A nurse.
Nathan recognized her.
She had testified in his mother's case years earlier.
Nathan called the hospital.
The nurse was still alive.
They found her in a retirement community outside Chicago.
She agreed to meet.
When Nathan showed her the photograph, she began crying.
“I knew this day would come.”
Nathan leaned forward.
“What happened that night?”
She looked toward Emma.
“One of the babies was taken.”
Emma's hand flew to her mouth.
“Which one?”
The nurse shook her head.
“We didn't know.”
“What do you mean?”
“The babies were switched.”
Nathan stared.
“Switched?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
The nurse lowered her voice.
“Because someone wanted to make sure the wrong baby was taken.”
Nathan's heart stopped.
Emma whispered,
“So one of my sons…”
The nurse nodded.
“One of them was never in danger.”
“Which one?”
The nurse looked at Nathan.
“I can tell you.”
Nathan leaned closer.
“But there's a problem.”
“What?”
She whispered:
“The child Charles wanted was not Ethan.”
May you like
Nathan froze.
“It was Noah.”
