Chapter 9 - The Dawn of Justice

A flashbang grenade exploded with a blinding, deafening BANG, filling the warehouse with thick white smoke.
"Federal Bureau of Investigation! Drop your weapons!" a voice roared through a megaphone.
Dozens of tactical agents descended from the roof on ropes, their weapons firing with precise, lethal accuracy. The FBI hadn't been called by Vincent; they had been alerted by the automated data packet Anthony had sent twenty minutes earlier when he realized his system was being probed by an outside hacker. Anthony had pulled the trigger early, sacrificing the secrecy to save them all.
The warehouse erupted into a chaotic, violent firefight. Vincent lunged forward, grabbing the pink backpack from the floor, his rifle barking as he took down two mercenaries who were trying to reach Frank’s family.
He sprinted through the smoke, cutting the ropes that bound his nieces and sister-in-law, shielding them with his broad body as bullets sparked off the metal shipping containers.
"Get to the exit! Run!" Vincent shouted, guiding them toward the FBI lines.
Through the clearing smoke, Vincent saw Julian Vance sprinting toward a speed boat moored at the back dock of the warehouse.
Vincent pursued him, his heavy boots slamming against the wooden planks of the pier. Julian turned, raising a pistol, but Vincent was faster. He tackled Julian into the freezing, churning waters of the lake.

They fought in the dark, cold water, the waves crashing against the wooden pylons. Julian fought with the desperation of a man facing a lifetime in a federal penitentiary, but Vincent fought with the strength of a soul that had finally found its light. He pinned Julian against the pier structure until the coast guard boats arrived, their spotlights pinning both men in a brilliant, blinding white glare.
"It's over, Vance," Vincent gasped, dragging the gasping blond man onto the rescue deck. "The city belongs to the truth now."
