Chapter 6 - The War of Wacker Drive
The retaliation from Horizon Development was swift and apocalyptic.
By noon the next day, the city’s police department issued an emergency arrest warrant for Vincent Caruso, naming him as a suspect in the abduction of Sophia Martinez. Every major news channel broadcasted his face, labeling him a dangerous fugitive.
"They're suffocating us, Boss," Marco said, watching the television monitors in the tactical room. "The police have checkpoints around the block. We can't move the girl without starting a firefight with actual cops."
"Then we don't move her," Vincent said. He turned to Anthony. "Is the file ready?"
"The digital recorder contained the decryption keys for the entire Horizon ledger," Anthony replied, holding up a secure satellite laptop. "Every document, every name, every bank account is compiled into a single, un-deletable file. I’ve pre-programmed it to send to the Department of Justice, the FBI, and every major investigative journalist in the country."
"Do it," Vincent ordered.
"Wait," a voice called out from the doorway.
Frank Caruso walked into the room, his face pale, his expensive silk tie askew. Two of Vincent’s guards stood behind him, their weapons drawn.

"Vincent, please," Frank begged, throwing his hands up. "You don't know what you're doing. Horizon has my family. They have my wife, my daughters. If you leak that file, Julian Vance’s people will kill them before the police can even make an arrest!"
Vincent stepped up to his brother, grabbing him by the lapels of his jacket, his eyes burning with a terrifying fury. "You should have thought about family before you let them murder Maria Martinez, Frank! You brought this poison into our house!"
