Chapter 9 - The Promise Expanded

Five years passed like a swift, beautiful river.

The house in Coyoacán had become a sanctuary of love and growth. Lupita’s grandmother had lived her final years in complete peace and comfort, passing away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by flowers, knowing that her granddaughter was safe and protected for the rest of her life.

Lupita, now thirteen, had excelled in her studies, consistently topping her class in science and mathematics. She had expressed a deep desire to become a pediatrician, a dream that Alejandro had promised to support through any university in the world.

On a warm summer evening, Alejandro sat in the library of his main estate, looking over a new architectural proposal.

Mateo, now eleven and growing tall, walked in, followed by Lupita. She carried a large binder filled with notes and sketches.

"Papa," Mateo said, sitting on the arm of his father's chair. "Lupita has an idea for the new resort development in Oaxaca. You need to look at it."

Alejandro smiled, closing his financial reports. "Oh, really? Let’s see it, Lupita."

Lupita opened the binder on his desk. Instead of luxury villas or high-end restaurants, the sketches showed a modern, fully equipped medical clinic and a community learning center.

"The coastal project is beautiful, Papa Alejandro," Lupita explained, her voice confident and clear. "But the local villages nearby have no doctors. The children have to walk miles just to get basic medicine, just like my brother did. I think the Santillán Foundation should build a free clinic next to the resort. We can fund it using a percentage of the hotel’s profits."

Alejandro looked at the detailed plans, then up at the young girl who had once entered his life with bare feet and a box of cheap candy. She hadn't let the luxury change the beautiful, empathetic soul that defined her.

"It’s an incredible project, Lupita," Alejandro said, his voice thick with pride. "In fact, I think we will make it the centerpiece of the entire development. And we will name it The Reyes Community Clinic."

Lupita’s eyes widened, a brilliant smile spreading across her face as she threw her arms around Alejandro’s neck. "Thank you, Papa!"
