Chapter 7 - The Port of No Return

The Philadelphia port at twilight was a sprawling, labyrinthine wasteland of towering metal shipping containers, giant cranes, and howling sea winds. The sky was a deep, bruised indigo, casting long, eerie shadows across the concrete docks.
Jackson parked his black SUV near the entrance of Berth 42. He stepped out into the biting cold wind, dressed in a simple black jacket. In his right hand, he held the encrypted drive Victoria had demanded.
He walked down the narrow alleyways formed by the stacked, multi-colored shipping containers, his eyes scanning the crane structures and the dark corners. Every sense was heightened; he could hear the lapping of the dark river water against the concrete piers, the creaking of the metal cranes, and his own steady, controlled breathing.
"I’m here, Victoria!" Jackson called out, his voice echoing through the steel maze.
Suddenly, a bright searchlight from a nearby crane snapped on, blinding him. Jackson shielded his eyes, looking up.
High above, suspended from the hook of a massive harbor crane, was a rusted blue shipping container, dangling precariously over the deep, churning waters of the Delaware River.
"Drop the drive on the ground, Jackson," Victoria’s voice boomed through a megaphone from the catwalk of the crane. She stood there, flanked by four heavily armed mercenaries, a remote control in her hand. "One button, Jackson. That’s all it takes to release the winch and drop your precious daughter to the bottom of the river."
Jackson stood his ground, his gray eyes locked onto Victoria. He didn't show fear. He didn't show anger. He showed only the absolute certainty of a predator.
"You won't drop her, Victoria," Jackson said, his voice carrying clearly over the wind. "Because the moment that container touches the water, your leverage is gone. And you know that if she dies, there is nothing in this world that can protect you from what I will do to you."
Victoria’s face contorted with rage. "You think you’re still the king, Jackson? Look around you! You’re alone!"
"He’s not alone," a calm, firm voice echoed from the shadows behind Jackson.
Jasmine stepped out from the darkness, wearing a dark jacket, her eyes burning with an unyielding, maternal fury.
Jackson gasped, turning his head slightly. "Jasmine! I told you to stay—"
"I am her mother, Jackson," Jasmine said, her voice steady and resolute as she stood by his side, locking eyes with Victoria. "We face this together."
Victoria laughed hysterically. "How touching! The happy family, dying together! Shoot them!"
But before the mercenaries could raise their weapons, a series of red laser dots appeared on their chests.

From the tops of the surrounding shipping containers, Marcus and Jackson’s elite tactical team rose from the shadows, their sniper rifles aimed directly at Victoria’s men.
"I don't think so, Victoria," Marcus’s voice crackled through the port's PA system, which he had successfully hijacked. "Drop your weapons."
