Chapter 2 - The Architecture of Ruin

For the last eight months, while Ryan believed I was resting on bed rest for our miracle pregnancy, I had been executing a quiet, systematic execution of the Calloway empire.

Ryan thought I was oblivious to his affair with Savannah. He thought I didn't notice the missing millions from our joint offshore accounts or the luxury condo he bought her in Manhattan. But as a former senior forensic auditor for the SEC before I married into this den of wolves, I knew exactly how to track a thief.

"You think you're leaving me for a 'real heir,' Ryan?" I choked out, a bloody but victorious smile forming on my lips as the paramedics carefully lifted me onto a stabilized stretcher. "The gold dress Savannah is wearing? The Rolex on your wrist? The mansion we are standing in? It doesn't belong to you anymore."

Agent Vance stepped in front of Ryan, pulling a thick, certified federal seizure warrant from his tactical folder.

"As of 1:30 PM today, the Department of Justice has executed a total asset forfeiture block on all accounts tied to Calloway Global Enterprises," Agent Vance announced, his voice echoing off the marble walls for all the high-society guests to hear. "Every single shell corporation, every luxury vehicle, and this exact estate have been frozen as proceeds of an international Ponzi scheme. Your father didn't build a tech empire, Ryan. He spent the last ten years embezzling pension funds from defense contractors."

Eleanor Calloway let out a high-pitched, strangled shriek, dropping her champagne glass. It shattered against the marble floor, matching the ruin of her family name. "No! That's impossible! Charles, tell them they're wrong! We are billionaires!"

"We were set up, Eleanor!" Charles roared, his perfect teeth bared in an animalistic rage as an agent forced his arms behind his back, ratcheting heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists. He glared at me on the stretcher. "It was her! She leaked the internal cryptographic ledgers!"

"I didn't leak them, Charles," I said softly, holding onto my belly as the EMTs began wheeling me toward the exit. "I audited them. And then I signed the whistleblower affidavit. Have a nice flight to the federal holding facility."
