Chapter 1 - The Federal Intercept

The slow, mocking applause from Charles and Eleanor Calloway died instantly in their throats as the heavy mahogany double doors of the mansion didn't just open—they splintered off their brass hinges.
A wave of tactical vests emblazoned with bold, golden letters shattered the high-society atmosphere of the estate. Armed federal agents flooded the marble foyer, their service weapons drawn, forming a human barricade between my bleeding body and the Calloway family.
"Federal Bureau of Investigation! Nobody move!" a commanding voice boomed across the vaulted ceiling. Leading the charge was Special Agent Marcus Vance, the head of the financial crimes and corporate racketeering division.
Ryan took a frantic step back, his hand slipping away from Savannah’s grip, his face draining of all color. "What is the meaning of this?!" he shrieked, his eyes darting frantically from the agents to his father. "Dad, do something! Call the mayor! Call the governor!"
Charles Calloway tried to summon his usual billionaire arrogance, stepping forward with his chest puffed out. "Step down, Agent. I am Charles Calloway. You are trespassing on private property during a private family event. My legal team will have your badges for this."
"Charles Calloway, you are under arrest for international wire fraud, money laundering, and corporate treason under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act," Agent Vance stated coldly, entirely unfazed. He didn't even look at Charles; his eyes went straight to me. "Medical team, get in here now!"
Two tactical EMTs rushed past the line of agents, dropping to their knees beside me. My sister Lily broke past the stunned security guards, throwing herself onto the floor next to me, sobbing as she gripped my hand.

"Vanessa, oh my god, Vanessa, stay with me," Lily cried, her hands shaking.
"I'm here, Lily," I whispered, the pain in my abdomen radiating fiercely, but my mind was as sharp as a diamond. I looked past the paramedics, straight into Ryan's terrified eyes. "You should have checked the accounting logs, Ryan. I told you I was managing the family trust. I just never told you where I was routing it."
