Chapter 10 - THE BOARDROOM

By sunrise, I was standing inside the company's headquarters.

The boardroom was full.

Executives.

Lawyers.

Investors.

And Margaret.

She sat at the head of the table.

Smiling.

“You're late.”

I walked in with Clara beside me.

“No.”

I placed a folder on the table.

“You're early.”

Margaret's smile disappeared.

I opened the folder.

Inside were recordings.

Bank transfers.

Forged documents.

Security footage.

Everything.

“You're finished.”

She laughed.

“You think this is enough?”

She slid a document toward me.

“Your board removed you.”

Silence.

I looked at the directors.

Nobody met my eyes.

Margaret smiled.

“The trust is disputed.”

I looked at Clara.

She stepped forward.

“No.”

Everyone turned.

Clara placed the original trust deed on the table.

Margaret's face went white.

“You stole that.”

“No.”

Clara looked directly at her.

“I recovered it.”

The attorney examined the document.

“It is authentic.”

Margaret stood.

“You don't understand what you're doing.”

Clara's voice remained calm.

“I understand perfectly.”

She looked around the room.

“This company belongs to the trust.”

Then she looked at me.

“And I am the trustee.”

Margaret's expression collapsed.

I smiled.

“For once, you're right.”

She stared at me.

“What?”

“You don't understand what you're dealing with.”

I pressed a button.

The conference room doors opened.

Federal investigators entered.

Margaret's face went pale.

One agent stepped forward.

“Margaret Vale, you're under arrest.”

She screamed.

“This isn't over!”

I watched her being escorted away.

But I knew she was right.

It wasn't over.

Because Adrian was still standing outside the room.

And he had just received a message.
