Chapter 7 - THE MAN BEHIND THE MONEY

Martin had disappeared.

Police searched the warehouse.

They found no trace of him.

But they found something else.

A hidden room.

Inside were hundreds of financial files.

Every transfer.

Every bribe.

Every payment.

For twelve years.

Andre stared at the evidence.

“This isn't just my mother.”

Camille nodded.

“No.”

Names appeared everywhere.

Developers.

Bankers.

Politicians.

Judges.

Even one federal contractor.

Andre looked sick.

“This could bring down half the city.”

Camille corrected him.

“Half the state.”

Lorraine sat in silence.

Finally she spoke.

“I didn't start it.”

Andre turned.

“What?”

“I didn't start the fraud.”

“Then who did?”

Lorraine looked at Camille.

“Your father.”

Camille froze.

“My father?”

Lorraine nodded.

“Your father and David built the original network.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“You're lying.”

Lorraine shook her head.

“Your father wasn't a businessman, Camille.”

She leaned closer.

“He was a fixer.”

Camille's face hardened.

“My father built a legitimate company.”

“He built two companies.”

Lorraine revealed a hidden account number.

“One legal.”

“And the other?”

“Money laundering.”

Camille stared at her.

“No.”

Lorraine whispered:

“Your father tried to leave.”

“And David helped him?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did David die?”

“Because they both knew too much.”

Andre stepped forward.

“Who killed him?”

Lorraine looked at her son.

“I didn't.”

Andre's voice broke.

“Then who?”

Lorraine's eyes filled with tears.

“Your brother.”

Silence.

Andre stared.

“My brother died when he was nine.”

Lorraine shook her head.

“No.”

May you like

She whispered:

“He never died.”
