Chapter 10 - THE CFO'S CONFESSION

Martin wasn't working alone.
He had created the shell companies.
He had transferred the money.
He had forged signatures.
But he hadn't killed David.
That crime belonged to someone else.
Martin surrendered two days later.
He walked into the FBI office carrying a suitcase.
Inside was evidence.
Enough to destroy the entire Callaway empire.
But Martin demanded one thing.
Protection for his daughter.
The truth came out quickly.
Lorraine had ordered the financial transfers.
Martin had obeyed.
But David discovered everything.
He planned to expose her.
Martin admitted he had been present the night David became sick.
But he hadn't poisoned him.
He had watched someone else pour something into David's drink.
“Who?”
Martin looked at Andre.
“Your uncle.”
Andre's face went blank.
“My father's brother?”
“Thomas.”
“But Thomas died.”
“No.”
Again.
Another dead man who wasn't dead.
Camille looked at the evidence.
The pattern was obvious.
Everyone connected to David had been disappearing.
But one person had benefited every time.
Thomas Callaway.
The real architect.
Lorraine hadn't been the mastermind.
She had been the shield.
Andre confronted her.
“You protected him.”
Lorraine cried.
“I was afraid.”
“You let me hate Camille.”
“I needed someone else to blame.”
“You destroyed our marriage.”
“I thought she would eventually leave.”
Andre stared at her.
“You were willing to destroy your own son.”
Lorraine whispered:
“Yes.”
The admission broke something inside him.
Camille took his hand.
Then her phone rang.
Unknown number.
A man's voice said:
“Thomas wants to meet you.”
Camille asked:
“Why me?”
May you like
The answer chilled her.
“Because you're the only person he can't buy.”
