CHAPTER 2 — Secrets Buried in Blood

“I loved your mother.”
The words hung in the air like poison.
No one moved.
No one spoke.
Elena stared at Alexander Vale as if the world had tilted beneath her feet.
Her mind refused to process what she had just heard.
“What… did you say?”
Alexander held her gaze.
His expression, usually cold and controlled, carried something different now.
Regret.
Pain.
And something far more dangerous.
History.
Daniel folded his arms, standing a few feet away.
Victor, forgotten for the moment, remained frozen in disbelief.
Sabrina whispered, “This is insane…”
Elena’s voice sharpened.
“No.”
She took one step toward Alexander.
“No, you don’t get to say that and stand there like it means nothing.”
Alexander inhaled slowly.
“It meant everything.”
Elena laughed.
But there was no humor in it.
“You loved my mother?”
Her voice rose.
“Then where were you when she died?”
Silence.
“Where were you when my father lost everything?”
Still silence.
“Where were you when I was seventeen and sleeping in a cheap apartment while creditors came banging at the door?”
Her eyes glistened.
“Where were you?”
Alexander’s jaw tightened.
“I was trying to keep you alive.”
Elena’s eyes widened.
“What?”
Daniel scoffed.
“There it is.”
Alexander ignored him.
Elena shook her head.
“No. No games.”
She pointed at him.
“Tell me everything.”
Alexander looked around the room.
Too many eyes.
Too many ears.
“This is not the place.”
Elena’s voice became ice.
“You lost the right to choose the place.”
Daniel smirked.
“She sounds like her mother.”
Alexander shot him a warning glance.
“Enough.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“No.”
His voice hardened.
“No more secrets.”
He looked at Elena.
“You want truth?”
She nodded, trembling.
Daniel exhaled.
“Then hear this.”
He paused.
“Your mother loved two men.”
Silence.
Elena stopped breathing.
“No.”
Daniel continued.
“She loved Richard Carlisle.”
A beat.
“And Alexander Vale.”
The room felt smaller.
Heavier.
Impossible.
Elena whispered, “Stop.”
Daniel didn’t.
“Before she married Richard, she was engaged to Alexander.”
Elena’s knees nearly gave out.
“No…”
“She broke the engagement.”
“Why?”
Daniel’s expression darkened.
“She was pregnant.”
Elena’s heart slammed.
“What?”
Daniel looked at Alexander.
“Tell her.”
Alexander remained silent.
Daniel’s voice turned cold.
“She got pregnant before marriage.”
Victor frowned.
“With who?”
Daniel answered.
“With Alexander.”
The room exploded.
Elena’s entire body went numb.
No.
No.
No.
This couldn’t be real.
She stared at Alexander.
His silence was answer enough.
Her lips trembled.
“You’re lying.”
Daniel said quietly—
“I wish I were.”
Elena’s voice cracked.
“Then… then who am I?”
Silence.
Alexander stepped forward.
“You are Richard Carlisle’s daughter.”
She looked at him.
Then Daniel.
Then back.
“What about the baby?”
Alexander closed his eyes briefly.
Daniel answered.
“The baby survived.”
A pause.
Then—
“That baby was me.”
Elena gasped.
The world shattered.
Daniel.
Her brother.
Alexander’s son.
Her mother’s secret child.
Hidden for decades.
She stumbled backward.
Mr. Laurent quickly moved a chair behind her.
Elena sat before collapsing.
Her hands shook uncontrollably.
“This can’t…”
Tears filled her eyes.
“My mother never told me.”
Alexander’s voice softened.
“She couldn’t.”
“Why?”
His face hardened.
“Because Richard asked her not to.”
Elena looked up.
“What?”
Alexander continued.
“Richard knew.”
Silence.
“He knew about Daniel.”
She stared.
“My father knew?”
“Yes.”
“Then why—”
“Because he loved your mother.”
Alexander’s voice deepened.
“Enough to raise another man’s child as his own.”
Elena froze.
Daniel lowered his gaze.
For the first time, his anger softened.
Alexander continued.
“Richard was a better man than me.”
Elena’s tears fell.
“No…”
“He gave your mother peace.”
A painful pause.
“And he gave Daniel his name.”
Daniel clenched his jaw.
“But not publicly.”
Alexander nodded.
“Because exposure would destroy everyone.”
Victor interrupted.
“What does this have to do with Carlisle’s downfall?”
Daniel looked at him with disgust.
“Everything.”
He turned back to Elena.
“The fraud wasn’t simple greed.”
Elena whispered—
“Then what was it?”
Daniel answered.
“Someone wanted leverage.”
“Over who?”
He looked directly at Alexander.
“Him.”
Elena frowned.
Alexander said nothing.
Daniel continued.
“Your father discovered offshore accounts connected to Vale Capital.”
Victor blinked.
Vale Capital?
Alexander’s empire?
Impossible.
Elena slowly turned.
“No…”
Daniel nodded.
“Yes.”
Alexander finally spoke.
“I created those accounts.”
Gasps filled the room.
Elena felt sick.
“Why?”
“For covert acquisitions.”
“That sounds illegal.”
“It was.”
Silence.
Elena stared.
“You admitted it?”
Alexander’s expression remained unreadable.
“I won’t lie to you.”
Her voice trembled with fury.
“You built illegal financial channels?”
“Yes.”
“And my father found them?”
“Yes.”
“And then?”
Alexander’s jaw tightened.
“Richard confronted me.”
Elena whispered.
“What happened?”
Alexander looked at the floor.
The memory clearly hurt.
“He threatened to expose everything.”
Daniel continued for him.
“But he didn’t want money.”
Elena frowned.
“What did he want?”
Alexander lifted his eyes.
“You.”
She froze.
“What?”
“Richard wanted me to stay away from your family forever.”
Silence.
Elena could barely breathe.
“Because he knew…”
Alexander nodded.
“Yes.”
“He knew I still loved your mother.”
Everything clicked.
The tension.
The bitterness.
The guilt.
Daniel spoke.
“Richard gave Alexander two choices.”
Elena whispered—
“What choices?”
Daniel answered.
“Destroy the accounts himself.”
“Or disappear.”
Alexander continued.
“I agreed.”
Elena blinked.
“You agreed?”
“Yes.”
“Then why did everything collapse?”
Daniel’s face darkened.
“Because someone leaked the information first.”
Elena’s pulse quickened.
“Who?”
Silence.
No one answered.
Her voice rose.
“WHO?”
Daniel looked toward Victor.
Victor stiffened.
“No.”
Daniel’s voice turned deadly calm.
“Your father.”
Victor shouted.
“Lies!”
Daniel ignored him.
“Harold Langley learned about the accounts.”
Alexander added quietly—
“He blackmailed me.”
Elena’s stomach dropped.
Victor shook his head.
“No—”
Alexander looked at him.
“Your father demanded partnership.”
Victor breathed faster.
“No…”
“When I refused, he leaked partial evidence.”
Elena whispered—
“To frame my father.”
Alexander nodded.
“Yes.”
Daniel clenched his fists.
“The leak was designed perfectly.”
“Why?”
“Because Richard had access.”
Elena’s voice cracked.
“So everyone believed…”
Daniel finished.
“That Richard was the mastermind.”
Silence.
Elena cried openly now.
“My father was innocent…”
Alexander answered.
“He died innocent.”
Victor shouted.
“My father never told me any of this!”
Daniel snapped.
“Because monsters don’t confess to their children!”
Victor staggered.
“No…”
Elena’s grief turned into rage.
She stood.
Slowly.
Dangerously calm.
She walked toward Victor.
One step.
Two steps.
Three.
Victor backed away.
“Elena…”
She slapped him.
Hard.
The sound echoed.
Victor’s head snapped sideways.
No one intervened.
Elena’s voice was shaking with fury.
“That was for the coins.”
A second slap.
“For the staircase.”
A third slap.
“For my father.”
Victor stumbled.
“Elena stop—”
She grabbed his collar.
“You laughed while my family burned.”
Victor trembled.
“I didn’t know!”
“YOU BENEFITED!”
Her scream shook the room.
Victor broke.
“I WAS A KID!”
She shoved him.
“And now you’re a man.”
Silence.
“What’s your excuse now?”
Victor collapsed into a chair.
Destroyed.
Sabrina quietly walked away.
No loyalty left.
No glamour left.
Only ruin.
Then—
A phone rang.
Sharp.
Urgent.
Everyone flinched.
Alexander answered.
His face changed instantly.
Not fear.
Shock.
Raw shock.
“What?”
Silence.
His voice dropped.
“When?”
Another pause.
Then—
“No. Lock everything down.”
He hung up.
Daniel narrowed his eyes.
“What happened?”
Alexander looked at Elena.
His expression had gone pale.
“Someone accessed the vault.”
Daniel frowned.
“What vault?”
Alexander answered—
“The archive.”
Elena whispered.
“What archive?”
Alexander’s voice became grave.
“The evidence your father left behind.”
Daniel froze.
No.
Elena saw it.
“Daniel?”
He didn’t answer.
Alexander’s eyes narrowed.
“It was opened with internal clearance.”
Silence.
Then realization struck all three at once.
Someone close.
Someone trusted.
Someone inside.
Daniel cursed.
“No.”
Elena whispered.
“Who has access?”
Alexander answered.
“Only three people.”
“Who?”
He looked at Daniel.
Then at himself.
Then—
At Elena.
Her blood ran cold.
“No.”
Alexander’s voice sharpened.
“Someone used your credentials.”
She froze.
“What?”
Daniel stepped back.
“Elena…”
Her heart pounded.
“No, I didn’t—”
Alexander pulled up security logs on his phone.
Entry confirmed.
Biometric match.
Elena Carlisle.
Timestamp:
Thirty-two minutes ago.
Impossible.
She shook violently.
“No.”
Daniel’s expression changed.
Suspicion.
Pain.
Fear.
“Elena…”
“No!”
She backed away.
“I didn’t!”
Alexander stared.
Then said the worst possible words.
“There’s only one explanation.”
Elena whispered—
“What?”
Alexander’s eyes hardened.
“You have a twin.”
Silence.
Utter silence.
Victor stared.
Sabrina stopped walking.
Daniel’s face drained.
Elena stopped breathing.
“…what?”
Alexander spoke slowly.
“Your mother didn’t give birth to two children.”
A pause.
“She gave birth to three.”
May you like
Blackout.
To be continued…
