Chapter 9 - The Harbor

Rain hammered the docks.
Roman arrived alone.
Naomi followed anyway.
Victor nearly lost his mind.
But she refused to stay behind.
They found a warehouse.
Inside were dozens of men.
At the center stood Silas Kincaid.
Older than Roman.
Elegant.
Smiling.
And holding Jude.
Roman stopped.
"Put my son down."
Kincaid smiled.
"You sound like your father."
Roman's eyes hardened.
"You killed him."
"I corrected him."
Naomi stepped forward.
"Give me the baby."
Kincaid looked at her.
"Marianne's daughter."
Naomi felt sick.
"You know my mother?"
"I know everything about your mother."
Kincaid smiled.
"She stole something from me."
"What?"
"The truth."
He revealed an old photograph.
It showed Roman's father, Roman's mother, and Marianne.
Behind them stood a fourth person.
Naomi's father.
Naomi stared.
"My father?"
Kincaid nodded.
"Your father was one of us."
Naomi shook her head.
"No."
"He betrayed us."
"You're lying."
Kincaid smiled.
"Ask your mother."
Roman stepped forward.
"You don't get to rewrite history."
Kincaid's smile disappeared.
"History belongs to whoever survives."
Gunfire erupted.
Roman's men stormed the warehouse.
Naomi grabbed Jude.
She ran.
Then she heard a scream.
Roman.
She turned.
Kincaid had him.
And a gun was pressed against Roman's head.
"Choose," Kincaid said.
"Your husband?"
Naomi froze.
Roman looked at her.
"We're not married."
May you like
Kincaid laughed.
"Not yet."
