Chapter 7 - THE WAREHOUSE

The old warehouse was empty.
Daniel entered alone.
Rain hammered the roof.
“I'm here!”
His voice echoed.
A light switched on.
Richard stepped out.
Daniel stopped.
“You.”
Richard smiled.
“You've grown.”
“I've known you my entire life.”
“And yet you never knew me.”
Daniel's fists tightened.
“Where's Vanessa?”
“Safe.”
“Where's Grace?”
“Also safe.”
“Then why am I here?”
Richard walked closer.
“Because your father made a mistake.”
“What mistake?”
“He trusted you.”
Daniel stared.
“My father didn't trust me?”
“He loved you.”
“That isn't what you said.”
Richard sighed.
“Your father believed money could protect people.”
Daniel said nothing.
“He built Whitfield Development from nothing. But he also made enemies.”
“Who?”
Richard smiled.
“Your father.”
Daniel understood.
“You were working against him.”
“No.”
“I found the records.”
Richard's expression changed.
“Your father stole from us.”
“Us?”
Richard nodded.
“There were investors.”
“What investors?”
“The people who financed your father's first projects.”
Daniel shook his head.
“That's impossible.”
“Your father used their money, then cut them out.”
“And you?”
“I tried to fix it.”
Daniel laughed.
“You murdered people.”
Richard's eyes hardened.
“Your father ordered Thomas Parker killed.”
Daniel froze.
“No.”
“He knew too much.”
“Who killed him?”
“Your father.”
Daniel felt sick.
“Why would he kill Grace's father?”
“Because Thomas discovered what your father had done.”
Daniel backed away.
“And Vanessa?”
Richard smiled.
“She was sent to recover the money.”
“By whom?”
Richard didn't answer.
Daniel heard footsteps.
Vanessa emerged from the shadows.
She looked different.
No elegant dress.
No jewelry.
No tears.
Just cold eyes.
Daniel whispered,
“Victoria.”
She smiled.
“Hello, Daniel.”
He felt betrayed all over again.
“You never loved me.”
Vanessa walked toward him.
“I did.”
“No.”
“I loved what you represented.”
Daniel's face hardened.
“At least you're honest now.”
She stopped.
“You were supposed to die after the wedding.”
Richard looked at her.
“You weren't supposed to tell him.”
“I don't care anymore.”
Daniel's heart pounded.
“You planned to kill me?”
Vanessa shook her head.
“Not me.”
“Who?”
She looked toward the darkness.
Daniel followed her gaze.
A man stepped forward.
Dr. Samuel Cross.
Vanessa's father.
Daniel recognized him from the clinic records.
The doctor smiled.
“Daniel Whitfield.”
Daniel stared.
“You're the one.”
Samuel nodded.
“I've been watching you for years.”
“Why?”
“Because your father owed me.”
“How much?”
Samuel laughed.
“It's not about money.”
“Then what?”
Samuel's expression became cold.
“Revenge.”
A gunshot exploded.
Richard fell.
Vanessa screamed.
Daniel ducked.
Marcus rushed into the warehouse with armed security.
Chaos erupted.
Samuel disappeared.
Vanessa ran.
Daniel chased her.
He caught her near the loading dock.
She turned.
“Daniel, listen to me.”
“You lied to me.”
“Yes.”
“You planned my death.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
She started crying.
“Because if I didn't, my father would kill me too.”
Daniel stopped.
“You're afraid of him.”
Vanessa nodded.
“He killed my mother.”
Daniel stared.
“And now?”
Vanessa whispered,
“He wants Lily.”
Daniel's blood froze.
“Why?”
“Because your father left something inside her mother's possession.”
“Whose possession?”
Vanessa looked toward Grace.
Then said:
“Her father hid the original trust inside Grace's house.”
Daniel realized the truth.
This was never about the bracelet.
It was never about the wedding.
May you like
It was about something hidden seven years ago.
And Grace had been carrying the key without knowing it.
