Chapter 1 – The Lie That Broke Apart
"She attacked me."
Isabella's voice trembled just enough to sound believable.
She clutched her arm as if she had been defending herself.
Marcus didn't answer.
His eyes never left Khloe.
She lay curled on the carpet, both hands wrapped protectively around her swollen stomach. Tears blurred her vision, but she never begged for help.
"I... can't feel him moving," she whispered.
Everything inside Marcus stopped.
"Call the emergency team!" he roared.
Doctors and nurses rushed into the suite within seconds.
One physician knelt beside Khloe while another checked the baby's heartbeat.
The room filled with frantic voices.
"Blood pressure is dropping."
"Prepare the operating room."
"We may be dealing with placental trauma."
Marcus dropped to his knees beside his wife.
"I'm here."
Khloe looked at him through tears.
"I didn't touch her."
"I know."
Those two words silenced the room.
Isabella stared at Marcus.
"You believe her?"
He slowly stood.
"No."
Hope flashed across Isabella's face.
Then Marcus finished.
"I believe what I saw."
His voice became frighteningly calm.
"I watched you kick my pregnant wife."
Security guards immediately stepped forward.
Isabella laughed.
"There's no proof."
Marcus turned toward Elaine Parker.
"Seal this entire floor."
"No one leaves."
Elaine nodded instantly.
The hospital's security system had recorded every corridor and every private suite.
If the cameras had captured the assault...
Everything would change.
As doctors wheeled Khloe toward emergency surgery, Marcus followed beside the bed, refusing to let go of her hand.
Behind him, Isabella suddenly looked less confident.
