CHAPTER 5 – “THE PEACE THAT NEVER LASTS”

CHAPTER 5 – “THE PEACE THAT NEVER LASTS”

The mansion looked peaceful in daylight.

But peace in the Moretti estate was never real.

It was just silence between wars.

Lily stood in the garden with Matteo, watching him chase butterflies between rose bushes. He laughed—something he hadn’t done freely before the explosion.

Vincent watched them from the terrace.

And for a moment, even he allowed himself to breathe.

“You’re thinking too loudly,” Marco said beside him.

Vincent didn’t look away. “I’m thinking it’s too quiet.”

Marco understood immediately.

In their world, quiet meant preparation.

Not safety.

That night, Vincent received a message.

No name.

No number.

Just a single sentence:

The maid is not who you think she is.

Vincent read it twice.

Then a third time.

Behind him, Lily walked through the hallway carrying Matteo’s jacket.

Smiling.

Alive.

Real.

And for the first time in years…

May you like

Vincent felt something unfamiliar creeping back into his chest.

Doubt.
