CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET VANESSA BURIED

Three days later, the truth arrived.

Logan sat alone in his office as the investigator placed a thick file on his desk.

Inside were documents Vanessa had spent six years hiding.

At first Logan refused to believe them.

Then he found the DNA results.

His hands started shaking.

Years ago, during Noah's birth, there had been complications.

Vanessa had nearly died.

The pregnancy itself had never been possible.

Because Vanessa had never been Noah's biological mother.

Marina was.

The room spun around him.

The investigator continued.

Six years earlier, Marina had worked as a nurse at a private clinic.

She had become pregnant after a brief relationship with Logan before he met Vanessa.

A relationship Logan barely remembered after a period of intense international travel.

Marina never knew she was carrying his child.

When Noah was born prematurely, Vanessa discovered everything.

Desperate to keep Logan and secure her future, she used her family's influence to manipulate the records.

Marina was told her baby had died.

Noah was registered as Vanessa's son.

And for six years, Marina lived believing her child was buried in a cemetery outside Boston.

Logan felt sick.

Every excuse.

Every warning sign.

Every moment Noah recoiled from Vanessa.

He had ignored them all.

The next morning he confronted her.

Vanessa never denied it.

She simply stared at him.

“You were never supposed to find out.”

Logan's heart hardened.

“You stole a child.”

“No,” Vanessa whispered. “I saved my marriage.”

Hours later police arrived.

Vanessa was arrested for fraud, document falsification, and child custody manipulation.

As officers escorted her away, she looked at Logan one final time.

“You think Noah will forgive you?”

The question hurt because Logan already knew the answer.

The child he loved had spent six years silently asking for help.

And Logan had never listened.
