PART 2 — THE SECRET BLOODLINE

PART 2 — THE SECRET BLOODLINE

For reasons of scandal, inheritance, and timing, the truth stayed hidden outside the family circle. Publicly Emma was introduced years later as a ward Christopher had taken in after Rachel’s death. Privately he knew she was his daughter and intended to make the truth official when the legal atmosphere around his late father’s estate settled. It never fully did. Christopher’s mother, Estelle Renshaw, disapproved of Rachel while alive and disapproved of Emma by inheritance after death. The child’s existence complicated voting rights inside the family media company and threatened assumptions about who would eventually control the Holmby Hills mansion. Juliette, who married into the family after Estelle’s health failed, learned very quickly that pleasing the matriarch and removing uncertainty were often the same project.
Emma understood little of trusts and bloodlines, but she understood cruelty. Juliette called her dirty when she came in from the garden. She cancelled swim lessons twice and then said it was because Emma lacked discipline.
