Chapter 10 - THE BOARDROOM

Daniel didn't want the trust.

He wanted the evidence.

Because the evidence could destroy him.

We escaped through the basement.

My mother knew a hidden tunnel.

She had lived in fear for fourteen years.

She knew every escape route.

By sunrise, we reached my office.

The board was already waiting.

Jonathan was there.

Daniel wasn't.

The chairman stood.

"Michael, we're voting to remove you."

I laughed.

"On what grounds?"

"Financial misconduct."

"Excuse me?"

They pushed documents across the table.

Millions of dollars had been transferred from Harrison Development into accounts controlled by me.

I stared at them.

"This is fabricated."

"Prove it."

I looked around the table.

Every director avoided my eyes.

Except Jonathan.

He looked angry.

Not at me.

At them.

"You're making a mistake," he said.

The chairman ignored him.

"Michael, you're suspended."

Then Sophie walked into the room.

Everyone turned.

She held my hand.

"That's my brother."

The room went silent.

My attorney stepped forward.

"The Harrison Family Trust names Michael Harrison as trustee."

The chairman smiled.

"That trust isn't valid."

My mother walked into the room.

"Yes, it is."

Every face changed.

Someone whispered:

"She's alive."

My mother placed the original trust documents on the table.

"Richard signed these in the presence of witnesses."

The chairman stood.

"Where did you get those?"

"I watched him create them."

Then Jonathan walked forward.

"I confirm their authenticity."

The chairman looked furious.

"You can't."

Jonathan smiled.

"I just did."

Suddenly, police entered the boardroom.

Behind them came federal investigators.

The chairman's face collapsed.

My mother whispered,

"It's over."

But it wasn't.

One investigator approached me.

"Mr. Harrison?"

"Yes?"

"We found the missing seventy million."

"Where?"

He handed me a photograph.

The money had been transferred into an account opened twenty years ago.

The account holder was:

Michael Harrison.

I stared at the document.

"I never opened this."

The investigator nodded.

"We know."

"Then who did?"

He turned the paper over.

There was a signature.

Mine.

But I had never signed it.

May you like

Someone had forged my identity for twenty years.

And whoever did it had been waiting for this moment.
