Chapter 15 - FUTURE WIFE

The next morning, Blackhaven woke to chaos.

The marriage license was missing.

The trust documents had been altered.

The wedding certificate from the previous night was fake.

Thomas had escaped custody.

Victor Hale had disappeared.

And Ronan's empire was under attack.

Mirabelle stood on the balcony of the Voss estate.

The city stretched below her.

For six years, she had believed survival meant keeping her head down.

Working.

Paying bills.

Protecting Kellen.

Never asking for more.

Now she understood.

Her father had left her an empire.

Her mother had survived sixteen years in hiding.

Her brother had become the key to exposing a criminal network.

And Ronan Voss—

the most feared man in Blackhaven—

had been protecting her long before she knew his name.

Ronan joined her.

"We're leaving."

"Where?"

"Somewhere safe."

She smiled.

"I've spent my whole life running from danger."

"And?"

"I'm tired."

He looked at her.

"What do you want?"

Mirabelle turned toward him.

"I want the truth."

"You have it."

"No."

She stepped closer.

"I want the whole truth."

Ronan nodded.

"Then we'll burn everything down."

That night, they returned to the Starlight Diner.

The place where everything began.

The broken tiles had been replaced.

The chair was gone.

But Mirabelle stopped at the counter.

A small box sat there.

Inside was a pair of silver scissors.

And a note.

YOU CAN CUT YOUR HAIR.

YOU CAN CUT YOUR FEAR.

BUT YOU CAN'T CUT YOUR BLOODLINE.

Mirabelle looked at Ronan.

"Who sent this?"

He shook his head.

Then Kellen entered.

He was holding a laptop.

"I found something."

"What?"

He turned the screen around.

A security recording.

From six years earlier.

Ronan entering the diner.

Mirabelle working behind the counter.

But there was something else.

A woman standing outside.

Watching her.

Mirabelle zoomed in.

Her mother.

Alive.

Six years ago.

Mirabelle's face went pale.

"Mom knew where I was."

Ronan nodded.

"Yes."

"Then why didn't she come home?"

The answer appeared on the screen.

A second figure approached her mother.

Mirabelle stared.

She recognized him.

Her father's old lawyer.

Dead for fifteen years.

Except he wasn't dead.

The video ended.

Kellen whispered:

"This goes deeper."

Ronan looked at Mirabelle.

"Are you ready?"

She nodded.

"For what?"

He held out his hand.

"For the life your father wanted you to have."

Mirabelle took it.

Then she smiled.

"But I'm not marrying you because my father told me to."

Ronan raised an eyebrow.

"Good."

"I'm marrying you because I choose you."

For the first time since they met, Ronan Voss smiled.

Then the diner doors opened.

A dozen armed men entered.

Ronan stepped in front of Mirabelle.

The leader lowered his weapon.

"Mr. Voss."

Ronan's hand moved beneath his coat.

"What do you want?"

The man looked at Mirabelle.

"We're not here for you."

Mirabelle's heart stopped.

"Then who?"

The man smiled.

"Your brother."

Kellen froze.

Ronan moved instantly.

But before he could reach him, the lights exploded.

Darkness.

Gunfire.

Screaming.

Then silence.

When the emergency lights flickered on, Mirabelle was still standing.

Ronan was bleeding.

Kellen was gone.

And on the counter lay one final message.

THE GIRL WAS NEVER THE HEIR.

THE BOY WAS.

Mirabelle stared at the empty doorway.

Her entire body went cold.

Ronan wiped blood from his mouth.

"We're getting him back."

Mirabelle looked at him.

"No."

Her voice was different now.

Steady.

Cold.

"They took my brother."

She picked up the silver scissors.

"They wanted the heir."

Her eyes hardened.

"So let's give them one."

Ronan stared at her.

"What are you planning?"

Mirabelle smiled.

"The war they thought they were starting."

She walked toward the door.

"And this time, I'm not the waitress."

She looked back at Ronan.

"I'm the woman they should have been afraid of."

Outside, Blackhaven thundered beneath a storm.

And somewhere in the darkness, the people who had spent sixteen years hunting the Hayes family were about to discover the worst mistake they had ever made.

They had taken Kellen.

They had awakened Mirabelle.

And they had given Ronan Voss a reason to stop playing defense.

The city would remember what happened next.

Not as a love story.

May you like

Not as a mafia war.

But as the night the Hayes family came back for everything that had been stolen from them.
