Chapter 9 - THE EIGHTY MILLION DOLLAR TRAP

Every alarm in Foxbridge Manor erupted at once.
Hudson moved instantly.
"Lock every door."
Richard shouted orders into his phone.
Naomi stood frozen.
"That account isn't mine."
"I know."
Hudson looked at her.
"But someone wants me to believe it is."
A security monitor flickered.
Then another.
Someone had hacked the estate system.
Five camera feeds went black.
Hudson's stomach dropped.
"The nursery."
They ran.
The babies were gone.
Hudson's world collapsed.
"No."
The cribs were empty.
A note lay on the floor.
You trusted her. Now pay for it.
Naomi started crying.
"I swear—"
Hudson grabbed her hand.
"I know."
"How?"
"Because if you wanted them gone, you wouldn't have spent a year keeping them alive."
Naomi stared at him.
"You believe me?"
"I do."
A voice came through the speaker.
"Touching."
Hudson looked up.
"Who are you?"
Laughter.
Then Vivian's voice.
"Still protecting strangers, Hudson?"
Hudson's face hardened.
"Where are my daughters?"
"Safe."
"If you hurt them—"
"You'll what?"
Hudson said nothing.
Vivian continued.
"You've spent your entire life thinking money makes you powerful."
Hudson looked at Naomi.
"Where are they?"
"Somewhere you can't buy your way into."
The call ended.
Hudson's phone buzzed.
A video.
He opened it.
Five babies.
Alive.
In a room he didn't recognize.
Then Vivian appeared.
"Bring Naomi."
Hudson whispered:
"She's using you."
Naomi nodded.
"Then let's end this."
The location was an abandoned property owned by Vale Technologies.
Hudson arrived with security.
But he didn't bring weapons.
He brought something else.
A folder.
Proof of Vivian's financial crimes.
He entered the building alone.
"Mother."
Vivian stepped into the light.
The five babies were nearby.
Hudson's eyes immediately found them.
Alive.
Safe.
Naomi entered behind him.
Vivian smiled.
"Good."
Hudson said:
"You wanted Naomi."
"Yes."
"Let her go."
Vivian laughed.
"You still don't understand."
"What?"
"Naomi wasn't protecting your daughters."
Hudson looked at her.
"She was protecting Delilah's secret."
Naomi's face changed.
Vivian continued.
"Tell him."
Naomi shook her head.
"Tell him what?"
"Who Delilah's real enemy was."
Hudson looked at Naomi.
She whispered:
"I don't know."
Vivian laughed.
"Yes, you do."
Then a man stepped from the shadows.
Hudson froze.
It was Ethan.
Alive.
Hudson stared.
"You?"
Ethan looked at him.
"I'm sorry."
"What are you doing here?"
Ethan's eyes filled with tears.
"I tried to stop her."
Vivian shook her head.
"Tell him."
Ethan looked at Hudson.
"Mother didn't act alone."
Hudson's face hardened.
"Who helped her?"
Ethan hesitated.
Then said:
"Your father."
Hudson froze.
"My father has been dead for eight years."
"I know."
"Then how?"
Ethan looked toward the ceiling.
"Because he left instructions."
Hudson stared.
"What instructions?"
Ethan whispered:
"To destroy the Vale family if the children ever inherited the trust."
Hudson looked at the five babies.
Then at Naomi.
And suddenly he understood.
This wasn't about eighty million dollars.
It wasn't even about Vivian.
Someone had been planning this long before Delilah died.
May you like
Someone had been waiting for the babies to be born.
And whoever it was had one final move.
